OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS AND CURATORS

Since its inception, CIRCA art actuel’s distinctive profile has been associated with contemporary sculpture. Over the past years, artistic practices that incorporate wider concerns of space have expanded the heart of our programming. Questions of space (social, personal, virtual, geographic, cultural, political, contested and environmental) can be rooted in the real, imaginary or virtual.
A conceptual thread that links our curatorial and artistic directions is the staging space, as it is manifested in diverse, meta sculptural practices including sculpture, installation and performance. CIRCA art actuel welcomes drawing, sound, new media, photography and painting when used to challenge or reconsider expanded definitions of space.
Exhibitions of CIRCA art actuel are chosen by a selection committee composed of artists, board members and the director. Their selection criteria are:
– The conceptual and formal relevance of the project in relation to the issue of space
– The uniqueness of the artistic proposal in relation to other current artistic practices
– The project in relation to the overall programming so as to ensure a variety of selected projects, gender and cultural diversity and the representation of different generations.
Each selected artist receives the CARFAC fee for the individual exhibition: CA$1845
Each selected curator receives CA$1000 for his/her project which has to use both gallery spaces, and the artists in the project receive the CARFAC fee depending on the number of artists included.
THE SUBMISSION MUST INCLUDE :
ARTISTS
Please include the following in A SINGLE PDF (no JPG accepted):
– Up-to-date CV
– Artistic statement (300 words maximum)
– 15 images of recent work at 1024 x 768 ppp, 72 dpi
– Vimeo link for videos
– Artistic proposal (400 words maximum)
– Descriptive list of images
CURATORS
Please include the following IN A SINGLE PDF ( no JPG accepted):
– Up-to-date CV of the curator
– Up-to-date CV of the artists
– Curating project proposal
– Artistic statements of the artists (300 words each maximum)
– 3 or 4 iages of recent work of each participating artist

The committee has the right to assign Gallery I or Gallery II to the artists. However, don’t hesitate to specify which gallery you wish to exhibit in, or if you want to use both of the galleries.

Depuis sa création, CIRCA art actuel s’est démarqué en présentant de la sculpture contemporaine. Aujourd’hui, ce sont les œuvres qui intègrent plus largement les préoccupations de l’espace qui constituent le cœur de la programmation.
Les problématiques de l’espace (espace social, personnel, géographique, culturel, politique ou environnemental) peuvent prendre ancrage dans le réel, le fictif ou le virtuel. Elles peuvent s’exprimer dans les œuvres à travers divers médiums tels que la sculpture, l’installation ou la performance. La notion d’espace peut également faire partie intégrante de démarches d’autres médiums qui enrichissent la problématique tels que le dessin, la photographie, la peinture, l’art sonore, le multimédia, etc.
Les expositions du CIRCA art actuel sont sélectionnées par le comité de programmation formé de membres actifs, de membres du conseil d’administration et de la directrice. La programmation vise à représenter une variété de générations, de provenances et un nombre équitable d’artistes hommes et femmes.
Les critères de sélection des dossiers sont les suivants :
– la pertinence du projet en regard de la problématique de l’espace
– la singularité de la proposition artistique par rapport aux autres pratiques en art actuel
– la variété des projets sélectionnés en fonction du type de pratiques
Chaque artiste reçoit le cachet CARFAC, soit 1845 $ pour une exposition solo.
Les commissaires reçoivent 1000 $ pour leur projet, qui doit investir les 2 galeries du CIRCA art actuel, et les artistes du projet reçoivent le cachet CARFAC selon le nombre d’artistes de l’exposition.
