CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
For a working period starting March 2015
at Van Eyck
Maastricht, the Netherlands

The Van Eyck welcomes promising and established artists, designers, photographers, architects, writers, curators, and thinkers. Every applicant shares our belief that insight comes through exchange with other: insight in the meaning of things, in your own practice, in the (art) world. Besides working in your own studio, you are expected to take an active part in the Van Eyck programme, to participate in one of the Mirror Labs and to be involved in one or more In-Labs.

The whys of applying:
Apply if you feel the time is ripe to take your work to another level in an open environment, to experiment and investigate, to see your work reflected in the mirror of the world or to do what no one fully grasps yet. Apply if you would like to meet artists, designers, curators, and thinkers from all quarters of the world. Apply if you want to be part of a community, establish collaborations and set up an In-Lab with other participants. Apply if you want to make use of our high-quality, well-equipped Labs. Apply if you would like to participate in a Mirror Lab project. Apply because you know the Van Eyck is the right place to be.

Number of places:
The Van Eyck offers places to ca. 40 participants on an annual basis. The duration of the residency ranges from four up to twelve months, depending on individual proposals and wishes. After due consideration an extension can be granted.

The Van Eyck provides:
– Studio of your own
– Monthly stipend of €900 which should cover an accommodation and living costs. (Renting a room through the Van Eyck amounts to €350 a month, which leaves €550 to support yourself. It is our estimate that it takes an additional €300 a month to attain an acceptable standard of living.)
– Production budget of €2,000 per year for each participant.

Participants should pay:
– Prior to your stay at the academy you are required to pay a personal contribution. The costs of being enrolled in this a postgraduate programme amounts to €2,750 at a yearly basis. For stays that are shorter or longer than 12 months pro rata amounts apply.

Application:
Applying is done digitally. The form and other required parts have to be filled out fully. Apart from the online application form, the other required parts have to be sent in one PDF file to application@janvaneyck.nl.

For voluminous files (like videos), please insert a link to the server/website/You Tube/Vimeo where the file can be viewed. Please make sure all the links to external sites work at least up to two months after the deadline has past.

The registration fee: €65.
The registration procedure is included in the online application.

An application consists of:
1. the online application form
2. a PDF file containing the following parts:
a) a clear table of contents
b) a project proposal stating goals and purpose of your stay (max. 500 words)
c) first ideas concerning an In-Lab (max. 500 words)
d) documentation of recent work (dating back no longer than 5 years, max. 20 works)
e) your resume (max. 2 A4)

Residence permit:
If you are neither Dutch nationals nor EU citizens (required to meet some conditions), you need to have a residence permit to stay in the Netherlands. (If your country of origin is New Zealand, South Korea or the US, you can apply for a visa once you have arrived in the Netherlands.) Please check www.ind.nl for further information.

Language of communication:
The languages of communication at the academy are Dutch and English. We expect you to master the English language sufficiently to be able to converse and collaborate with the participants and staff members.
