residencyforartistsonhiatus.org

RFAOH co-directors, Shinobu Akimoto and Matthew Evans are pleased to invite international “artists on-hiatus” to apply to our 2nd call for participation in our ongoing project, Residency for Artists on Hiatus (RFAOH).

Residency For Artists On Hiatus is a virtual yet functioning residency available to artists who, for one reason or another, are NOT currently making or presenting art. The residency exists in the form of a website, and the participants are selected based on their proposals of “on-hiatus” activities (or non-activities). To be eligible to apply, artists must have previously created an independent body of work and have exhibited in a public context. Selected artists will be represented on the RFAOH website by a dedicated page on which they are asked to post periodic reports throughout their residency. A modest stipend will be awarded to successful applicants to assist in their on-hiatus endeavours. At the conclusion of their residency, residents are expected to submit a written report on how they benefited from or were otherwise influenced by this opportunity. Residential Fellowships for international visual artists
at Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral

in Bad Ems, Germany

Deadline: Saturday 28 June 2014 (postmark)

Artists’ residence Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral in Bad Ems was founded in 1995 and is a place of reflection, artistic production, discussion and meeting. It supports visual artists from all over the world by awarding artists-in-residence fellowships.

The Künstlerhaus is publicly presented through lectures, concerts and exhibitions. Works by the fellows are regularly shown in ‘Made in Balmoral’, the Künstlerhaus’ exhibition space in the Bad Ems city centre. Schloss Balmoral sees itself as an interface between artistic work and theoretical reflection and as a point of contact between former and present fellows. Balmoral intends to build a bridge between the artists’ present and their future.

The theme for the residential fellowships for 2015 is Dada. Since 2013, fellowships are offered in one artistic genre or one theme each year. This offering, which is unique in Germany, is intended to enable deeper mutual creative cross-fertilisation among the resident artists. It will also lead to a more intensive specialist exchange of ideas with external artists, speakers, teachers, curators, etc. For 2015, the Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral is awarding two 3-month residential fellowships and four 9-month residential fellowships. About HMK
Hotel Maria Kapel is an artist-run residency and project space located in a 15th century chapel in Hoorn, the Netherlands; a small historic town 40 kilometres north of Amsterdam. Hoorn was founded in 716, and rapidly grew to become a major harbour town. During Holland’s ‘Golden Age’, Hoorn was an important home base for the Dutch East India Company (VOC) and a very prosperous centre of trade. Hoorn is currently a city with a small touristic centre and larger sub-urban area and has a high number of commuters to Amsterdam for work and studies. HMK offers artists a stay in a concentrated work space, where dialogue and collaboration inform experimental, context based exhibitions and projects. The programme invites artists and curators working in a wide range of media, but mainly focusing on installation and context based work and video.

Call for applications for artist-in-residency programme in the public space
Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain

Deadline: 2 April 2014

casino-luxembourg.lu

Packed with precious impressions and enriched with valuable experience from its successful residency programme project room @ aquarium, from 2015 onwards, Casino Luxembourg will move its residency programme out of its building and into the public space!

This contextual transfer will allow Casino Luxembourg to be present and get active in the public area on a more regular basis. Sharing the public space will hence be the new challenge, and therefore Casino Luxembourg is looking for artists whose practice is familiar with the notions of public space be it e.g. through site-specific interventions or community involvement.

This new residency programme will be designed so as to provide a maximum flexibility for the working artist and to offer the best possible conditions with regard to the realisation of each project. To get acquainted with Luxembourg’s public space, a five-day “taster” visit of Luxembourg will be scheduled in October 2014 for the two laureates. Subsequently, each will be requested to develop a first outline of their project for Luxembourg by December 2014. The residency periods (between six and eight weeks) will be settled according to the very specific needs of the projects.
