I am writing to you on behalf of BLACKOUT FEST, a new interactive art festival taking place August 10th-19th in Toronto. The festival will take place at 155 Walnut Ave, on top of an ice factory.
I have something that I feel will interest your followers.
Toronto, July 11, 2012 – The first annual BLACKOUT FEST, an interactive 10-day arts festival, is sure to inspire, intrigue and captivate Toronto audiences. Running from Friday, August 10 to Sunday, August 19 at the Ice Factory (155 Walnut Ave), BLACKOUT FEST will showcase a combination of film, fashion, theatre, photography, music, sculptures, poetry, and more.
Creators, Mishka Balilty and Eugenia Loukian, are offering rising artists the opportunity to showcase their art to the public in an open environment. Without placing boundaries on artists’ work, the dynamic duo is creating an artist community in which individual talents are elevated through the collaboration process. Each season will come with a new theme, one that intrigues, inspires and ultimately makes the observer question the purpose of the creation. This season’s theme is “THE ULTIMATE QUESTION”. Answering their own ultimate question, artists will explore the answer through their work and present it in an interactive way which the observer can experience and become a part of.
“Our goal is to inspire artists and create an even more inclusive artist community in Toronto,” said Eugenia Loukian, event director, BLACKOUT FEST. “We don’t want to limit artists to one medium of art; we believe that if you’re an artist, you’re an artist in every aspect. One week you may be working with acrylic paints and the next, snapping photographs for an installation piece,” adds Mishka Balilty, creative director, BLACKOUT FEST.
One of Canada’s most exciting emerging young artists, Jacelyn Holmes, will be exploring the question “Is love defined by commitment or labels?” through a musical performance. Toronto based visual artist, Kyle Brohman, will be creating a photo-based installation to answer his question “Why bother going?” And rising multi-media star, Sarah McCaw, will be exploring themes of anxiety and neurosis through her collection of frustrated objects, answering the question “Is everything going to be alright?” Click here to learn more about participating artists.
Each day and night, the festival will feature different artists and installations. The festival also features educational workshops that will give artists the tools necessary to establish themselves as a business. Tickets are open to the public and will be available to purchase online and at the door.
